Management Team

Ted Walker

‘Ted’ started T&J Haulage in 1984 along with his wife Judy, hence the name T&J. Starting out with just one truck, Ted carried out the driving in his brand-new Leyland Roadtrain tractor unit coupled to a Craven Tasker trailer before adding another Leyland Marathon the following year. Ted was a very well-respected man within the industry but sadly passed away in January 2021, leaving a much-admired legacy.

Judy Walker

Director

Judy has always played a very supportive role within the T&J Team, having started the business with Ted in the early days and carried out all the administrative duties. She still visits on a daily basis to feed the troops!

Trevor Walker

Managing Director and Transport Manager

Trevor began his career with the T&J Team driving the family’s 3rd truck in 1989. After 20 years on the road, Trevor took the natural step to come off and oversee the entire operation. The extensive knowledge Trevor possesses has ensured complete functionality, best practice and the progressive growth of T&J Haulage. Trevor has the primary role within the operation to provide not only the practical and effective operational backbone to the business, but the insight into building on an already consistent and expanding customer base. In his spare time (not that he has much!) Trevor enjoys mountain biking.

Richard Walker

Director

Trained as a skilled H.G.V. fitter and then progressed as a truck driver driving T&J’s second truck in the late 80’s. Richard came off the road to manage the day-to-day operational needs of the garage maintenance operation and effectively organise the servicing of all our fleet and trailers. Due to ill-health Richard has taken more of a back seat, but he still likes to visit the garage on Saturday mornings to ensure that the fleet is being maintained to the very best standards. Richard was a bit of a dab hand at clay pigeon shooting.

Stephanie Crack

Transport and Compliance Manager

Stephanie is a critical link between the various elements that ensure full compliance. Her responsibility is to ensure that vehicles are maintained to the very best possible standards, are fully roadworthy and that drivers comply with traffic and Drivers’ Hours regulations. Steph also ensures that the benchmarks for FORS, TASCC and fleet compliance (as laid out in the Operator’s Licence undertakings) are observed within the business. Steph started out in the industry passing her rigid and articulated licences respectively in 1999 and 2000. She began by moving small plant on a beaver tailed Leyland 11-11 and then progressed to an MAN low-loader before spending the next 15 years or so as a Freelance Truck and Coach driver, driver trainer (licence acquisition – CPC) and assessor until she settled into the T&J Team in late 2016. In her spare time, she enjoys open-water swimming and kayaking with her 2 Cocker Spaniels – Ruby and Gracie.

Mark Walker

Operations Planner

Mark has always had a keen interest in trucks and he started at T&J at a young age, washing and polishing the fleet which he has continued to this day! Mark Joined the T&J Team on a full-time basis in 2019, having had a few years of practical experience elsewhere within the industry. Mark began in the workshop for the first twelve months, learning the business from its core. He then moved up into the Traffic office and now, along with his dad Trevor, is first point of contact for our valued and well-established customer base. Mark is responsible for the day-to-day logistical operation of our fleet. Mark’s a keen moto-crosser and follows Stock car racing as far as Kings Lynn in his spare time. Although Mark wouldn’t tell you himself, he won ‘Best Restored Tractor’ at Chipping Steam Fair 2023 with his John Deere 1991 plated 3350.

James Walker

Driver

‘Jimmy’ joined the business in 2018 having worked for a local Plant Hire Company. He took his LGV C+ E (Class 1) at the age of 18 – following his Granddad, Dad and Uncle’s footsteps, learning the business from the ground up – Yard – Workshop and then Driving. Jimmy drives the first Scania R540 that T&J invested in which commemorated to Ted, with his image on the back and the registration TJ21TED. The truck appeared on the Scania calendar in July 2022 and has won many awards including 3rd place in ‘Best Kept Company Owned Truck’ in the grand final of Truckfest Edingburgh, ‘Best working truck 0-12 months’ at Grampion Truck Show, Inverurie, ‘Best working truck 0-3 yrs’ twice + ‘Best in show’ twice at Truckin2, Grantown, ‘Best Working truck under 3 yrs’ + ‘Best combination’ + ‘Best in Show’ at Truckness, Black Isle showground 2022.

Andrew Brown

Andrew – ‘Cheggs’ is responsible for ensuring that all the fleet maintenance is carried out to the best standards and as required by the DVSA Guide to Roadworthiness. Cheggs started his career with an apprenticeship in tool making. After qualifying, he took the decision to work for himself as a diesel engine reconditioner on commercial vehicles. Cheggs took a year out from the British weather to work as an agricultural mechanic on a farm in Australia before returning to Blighty to work the next 3 years welding and fabricating aluminium for the construction of specialised commercial vehicle bodies. Andrew joined the T&J team in early 2017 and can often be found completing crosswords in the canteen at lunchtime

Charlotte Haworth

Apprentice HGV mechanic

Charlotte – ‘Charlie’ joined the T&J team in March 2023 to help in our fully fitted workshop. Charlie has a keen interest in trucks having been to work with her mum (a transport supervisor within the industry) over the years. Charlie loves to eat out, trying out new foods and going to the gym in her spare time.

Driving Team

The management team are supported by a team of 22 experienced drivers all trained to industry standards i.e. TASCC – FORS – MPQC – Safe Urban Driving and Driver CPC

You can have the best equipment in the world, but if you haven’t got the best drivers you’re not going to get very far!

Our drivers take great pride in both their work and their trucks, many of them long serving members. They are able to personalise their trucks with their chosen quote above the doors i.e. ‘You never get a second chance to make a first impression’ and an image on the back of the cab.

It’s testimony to them that we have had to have a trophy cabinet built! It shows their pride in the job and we couldn’t do this without them.
